A documentary by Bill Warrell features renowned choreographer Bill T. Jones and and an indepth look at the common ground between Jazz and Modern Dance.  The film profiles Julius Hemphill, Don Pullen with Garth Fagan Dance, and Fred Hersch with Bill T Jones’ Company.  Noted jazz impresario, Bill Warrell will lead a pre-film discussion on Performance Portraits followed by a post-screening Q&A.

Warrell is founder of District Curators Inc., a major presenter and producer of performing arts, cultural festivals and media arts (1978-2004). As a producer/writer/director, his credits include numerous radio specials for  NPR, WPFW,  and WBGO; and a series of poignant video documentaries including Performance Portraits and Still Singing, with Odetta and Michelle Shocked, among others. He produced the feature film, Crazy Like a Fox, directed by Richard Squires, with Roger Rees and Mary McDonnell. Warrell is a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and earned an MA in Producing for Film and Video from American University’s School of Communications. Warrell is currently the primary producer on three indie feature film projects: Maker of Saints (pre-production)  and, in development, Night of Fire and Felt Tooper.
