ANC 5C ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE SEEKS CITIZEN INPUT

The Economic Development Committee of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 5C is seeking input from residents to help develop public policy which will encourage and monitor controlled economic development in the western neighborhoods of Ward 5.  If you live in Bloomingdale, Brookland, Eckington, Edgewood, Metropolis View, Pleasant Hill, Stronghold or Truxton Circle, and you have experience or expertise in business retention and expansion, finance, marketing, neighborhood development, real estate development and reuse, small business and entrepreneurship, strategic planning, urban planning or workforce development, your community needs you.  Please consider contributing your time and talent to support the work of the ANC 5C Economic Development Committee.  For information on how you might contribute, contact Commissioner Bradley Thomas, at (202) 670-0151, or e-mail your questions or your resume to bradley.thomas@anc.dc.gov

Dance Place Performance - The Whiz

Ease on down the road to recession and back from the brink of fantasy in Nicholas Leichter and Monstah Black's take on The Wizard of Oz for the Obama generation. Featuring choreography by Leichter, and a commissioned adapted score by Black with added musical selections, The Whiz is a full-spectrum original show of song, dance, and theatrical extravaganza.

Dance Place is two blocks from the Brookland/CUA Redline Metro stop. Exit the turnstiles and immediately go right and up the escalator. You will be out of doors in a bus area. Turn right at the bus area. Follow the sidewalk, which leads to Monroe Street. Turn right on Monroe Street and go across a short bridge. After the bridge, turn left immediately onto 8th Street, NE. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left side of the street.

Street Parking is available.

EICCI Creates Community Message Board for South Campus Residents

Economic International Construction Corporation, INC responded to SMD 5C10 request for a demolition plan by posting Spellman, Spalding and Conaty Demolition Plan on a message board posted on the 3300 block of 7th St NE.  The message board will be updated biweekly.

Initial text include:

All communications from the neighborhood will come through and be directed to Economic International Construction Company, Inc. Attention – Damon Roundtree 410-327-9105

Deliveries will turn off Monroe, down 7^th, then into the site to avoid riding thru the residential portion of

7^th St

.

Work will begin at 7pm and end by 4pm, Monday thru Saturday

The DC Inspectors visit the project on a regular basis to insure we are in compliance with the demolition and sediment controls guidelines.

This is our 2 week look ahead you requested dates are from 2-24-11 until 3-10-11

Mass demolition with the crane and wrecking ball complete during this time frame.  Spellman building will be processed and ready for crushing within these time frames.  All metal from Spellman will be loaded out to a recycling venue.

Schedule will be updated every 2 weeks.

Our subcontractor, Berg is responsible for keeping the entrance and

7^th street

clear and clean during the demo work.

All construction personnel and equipment will be parked within the LOD.  There is plenty of space in the rear of the site.

SMD Meeting - March 11th 2011

Commissioner Silas Grant (5C09) and I are hosting a joint Single Member District meeting on March 11th, 2011.  Our main focus is to inform our constituents in the area about the construction that is currently taking place and projected in the near future.  We have invited the DC Office of Planning, contractors and subcontractors to attend this meeting.

 A concerned neighbor took these pictures displaying that the fuel from the construction site was polluting the water travelling to the storm drain on 7th Street.  Pictures are taken within the 3200 block of 7th Street NE.

EICCI was sent copies of the pictures.  We have asked EICCI and BERG to execute a prevention plan.
